About

My name is Kathryn, and I am a high school student enrolled in a conservation biology CTE class (career and technical education program) offered through my school. This class introduces students to all the possible career paths in Natural Resource Conservation and Wildlife Biology. This is a laboratory/field-based course which involves hands-on learning of ecological science, animal and plant studies (i.e. behavior, identification), job shadowing, and educational field trips.

Through this class, students are expected to conduct an all-year independent project chosen on our own that focuses on either conducting research, addressing a community need, or activism. My chosen route was activism. I have always felt particularly strongly about how the way we eat hurts the planet. It started as early as elementary school, where in 3rd grade I went vegetarian to stop eating meat, and have been ever since. Throughout my schooling and my life, I have learned more and more about how the meat industry isn’t the only food industry hurting the planet. So for my project, I decided I wanted to explore that further. My research ended up focused on three specific food industries: meat, agriculture, and fishing/aquaculture. This website is the fruit of my research. I turned what I learned into a place to teach others and spread awareness on these issues.
